Georgia Southern football player struck by lightning

A Georgia Southern football player was struck by lightning today during practice in Statesboro, during a sudden thunderstorm.

According to the Statesboro Herald and GSUfans.com:

Man struck by lightning on GSU football practice field - reports via scanner his is OK but on the way to the hospital. Several lightning strikes including Love's Daycare on Denmark - evacuated - house on Westhampton Pointe Drive also struck. More details as we get them.

WTOC Channel 11 in Savannah reported that  a football player was struck. He was conscious and taken to the hospital. No name was given.

An account of the storm from their Facebook: Jeanette Steves Sapp: That storm came from nowhere. While driving down Northside Dr a transformer was hit and blew up...me amd my kids next to it and under the power lines. The coach couldn't have known this was coming. Prayers goes out the the injured player.

The Big Guy Frank Sulkowski: An eyewitness tells me that the players were under the pavillion at the practice fields...lightning struck a tree near by.
