Goose Creek out of playoffs, appealing

Major news coming out of the Lowcountry today. The #1 team in the state of South Carolina, the Goose Creek High School Gators, are ineligible for the rest of the state playoffs, apparently disqualified because they had a player who transferred from another school who was in his 5th year of playing.

They self-reported the ineligible player.

Lou Bezjak of the Florence Morning News was the guy who broke this story at 12 noon today. Daniel Gerth, a football player for West Florence, tweeted him at 11:47am asking if Goose Creek was taken out of the playoffs.

Apparently, the ineligible player was used during a 48-7 blowout of Conway Friday night. The game would revert to a forfeit if the ruling stands.

@loubezjakfmn Goose Creek has been disqualified from the 4A playoffs so Conway will take on Bluffton on Friday

@SEisbergWCIV: I've heard that Goose Creek might have 5th yr. player whose original school has turned him in- no confirmation at all yet on this.

Bluffton would get to host Conway in this scenario. Goose Creek is appealing at 5:30pm tomorrow in a conference call.
